To
work on your website, you need to “Log
In” to the website control panel.
Here is how to do it:
Go
to your website homepage and then add “/administrator”
to the address and press enter.
For
instance if your website was http://www.thebasicsoflife.com Then you would go to http://www.thebasicsoflife.com/administrator
You
will come to a screen that looks like this:

Just
enter the username and password we gave you for administering your Joomla! Site
and press the “Login” button.
You
will be taken to a screen that looks like this:

From
here you can do everything you need to do on your website. This is the “Home” page of the administration
part of your website.
Sometimes,
when you do things on your website, you are not taken back here. When you want to get back here, just click on
“Site”
in
the upper left of the screen (See where the red arrow points above)
Now
there are many things you can do that can mess up your website, so be a little
careful.
Without
giving the details of HOW TO work in the following 5 areas, we will now give
you an overview of them.
The
“HOW TO’s” are contained in other tutorials named after each of these areas.
1. Article Manager. (See where the red arrow points below)
This
is the button to press to get to the Article Manager. Almost every web page is a Article page.
You
will spend most all of your time working in the Article Manager.

2. Frontpage Manager. (See where the red arrow points below)
This
is the button you press to work on the Home page of your website. It is a special kind of article page and
accessible
from this button, within the Article Manager and by clicking on the Content menu.

3. Components. (See the item pointed to by a red arrow in the
picture below)
This
menu item called “Components” is where you will go to work on the “Contacts”
page,
and
create any forms using another component called “Performs”.

4. Menu. (See the menu item pointed
to by a red arrow in the picture below)
This is the “Menu” item where you will work on the menu systems on the website

5. User Manager. (See where the red arrow points below)
Press
this button to access the User Manager. This is where you add or delete users,
setup
who gets system emails, change passwords, etc.

Now,
OCCASIONALLY (like once
out of 1,000 visits to the website) you will need to go to a couple other places, but the
tutorials
for those special and rare occasions will show you how to get to those places.
